Events, Climate, and Collective Responsibility
NEUTRAL EVENT
Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Cup Reception, February 2026
Events drive industries and societies. They shape conversations, spark innovation, and generate business. Above all, they enable human collaboration. This holds true for every subject – including sustainability and climate change.
The events industry occupies a unique position in the global climate response. It provides the meeting places and market places where solutions to the climate crisis are discussed and advanced. At the same time, it carries a responsibility to minimise its own environmental footprint.
On the occasion of the Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Cup Reception at the Royal Calcutta Turf Club, the British Deputy High Commission Kolkata has committed to hosting a Climate Neutral Event, with Consultivo appointed as the official Sustainability Partner.
Presenting a Climate Neutral Event
This reception has been designed and delivered using internationally recognised good practices to measure, reduce, and responsibly neutralise its carbon footprint.
By being here, you are part of a collective effort to demonstrate how prestigious, large-scale events can align with climate responsibility without compromising experience or elegance.
What Does “Climate Neutral” Mean?
A climate neutral event is one where:
- Emissions are first avoided and reduced wherever feasible, and
- Unavoidable emissions are measured and offset through credible, verified climate projects.
This approach follows the globally accepted principle: Reduce first, then offset.
How This Event Reduced Its Footprint
Low-Carbon Catering
- A plant-forward menu to lower emissions intensity
- Hyper-local sourcing of perishable ingredients
- Zero-waste protocols, eliminating single-use plastics
Sustainable Mobility
- Encouragement for electric vehicle use
- Shared mobility options to reduce single-occupancy travel
Energy Efficiency
- Near 100% LED lighting for event illumination and staging
Digital-First Experience
- Paperless invitations and QR-based engagement, reducing material and logistics emissions
I commit to making thoughtful lifestyle choices that reduce my environmental impact, support responsible resource use, and contribute to a more sustainable future.
Neutralising the Remaining Emissions
Despite best efforts, some emissions are unavoidable. These will be responsibly neutralised by supporting UN-recognised climate action projects in India, aligned with national and global climate goals.
These projects contribute to:
Clean energy generation
Emissions reduction at scale
India’s transition towards a low-carbon economy
Standards and Credibility
The climate neutrality approach for this event aligns with globally recognised frameworks, including:
- ISO 14068-1 – Carbon Neutrality
- ISO 20121 – Sustainable Event Management
These standards ensure transparency, credibility, and accountability.
Your Role: Small Actions, Collective Impact
Climate action does not end with this event. Every individual and organisation can make a difference:
Choose low-carbon travel and mobility
Reduce waste and single-use materials
Support renewable energy and climate-positive initiatives
Integrate sustainability into everyday decisions

Disclaimer
The Climate Neutral claim for this event refers to climate-neutrality for a defined scope and period, as determined by a good-faith assessment of greenhouse gas emissions associated with selected event-related activities. The scope, boundaries, and assumptions have been defined in line with the principles of ISO 14068-1 (Carbon Neutrality), including the application of the hierarchy of avoidance and reduction prior to neutralisation of residual emissions.
Residual emissions within the defined scope have been addressed through the support of UN-recognised climate action projects. References to ISO 14068-1 and ISO 20121 indicate alignment with guidance frameworks and principles and do not constitute third-party certification, verification, or accreditation, unless explicitly stated. Emissions estimates and neutrality outcomes are subject to inherent uncertainties arising from data quality, methodological choices, and system boundaries.
