Leadership challenges in managing Contractor induced Risk at Workplaces
Knowledge report published at CII Safety Symposium and Exposition 2017
This knowledge report emphasises on the fact that, the critical challenge before any company management is to ensure safe execution of projects by external contract workers. No company can perform well unless the safety performances of the contractors are well managed. Even legally the principal employer is held responsible for any kind of incidents at the contractor site. The challenge seems to be even more daunting as the contractor is an external entity and may not be in sync with safety policy or culture of the company. The contractor usually brings his own equipment, own people with unknown habits and sometimes new methods into a company’s premises which can become potential hazards to health and safety.
The key intention is to encourage the safety culture.
