When a company’s CSR initiatives reach across states, communities and development themes, the question isn’t what was done, but what difference did it make? This is where a robust, independently conducted CSR Impact Assessment Report plays a vital role.
Tata Consumer Products Limited (TCPL) partnered with Consultivo to assess and communicate the real impact of its CSR projects. The result? A credible, multi-dimensional report that combined data, insights and strategy—aligned with both Indian and international benchmarks.
Why a CSR impact assessment report matters
Organisations today are moving beyond spend-based CSR to impact-driven strategy. A well-designed CSR Impact Assessment Report provides evidence of effectiveness, helps refine programmes, and supports long-term social value creation.
For TCPL, the objectives were clear:
- Understand the impact of CSR interventions on real lives
- Comply with CSR Reporting in India and MCA guidelines
- Align with SDGs and create a strong foundation for future corporate social responsibility reporting
- Establish a best-in-class reporting process for internal and external stakeholders
Methodology: A holistic approach to CSR impact assessment
To develop a strong CSR Impact Assessment Report, we used the Consultivo ImpactMap, a logic-based framework that draws on:
- Theory of Change (ToC)
- National Guidelines on Responsible Business Conduct (NGRBC)
- ISO 26000 and GRI Standards
- SDG mapping
- Good industry practices
This ensured alignment with national expectations and international benchmarks, making the report both credible and actionable.
Diverse geographies. Multiple themes. One integrated CSR impact assessment report.
TCPL’s CSR programmes spanned five core thematic areas:
- Health and wellbeing
- Education and skilling
- Empowerment of persons with disabilities
- Rural development
- Water, sanitation and hygiene (WaSH)
We conducted the CSR impact assessment across 7 flagship projects, covering 10 diverse project locations in 7 Indian states.
Primary tools included:
- Structured beneficiary surveys (800+ responses)
- Focus group discussions and stakeholder interviews
- Field visits for data validation
- Project documentation and review of implementation partner reports
Measuring outcomes with clarity and consistency
The CSR Impact Assessment Report presented project outcomes using a clear input–output–outcome–impact logic. Highlights included:
- RHRC Assam: 80,000+ patients served in FY 21–22, with 68% from families earning below ₹6,000/month
- Srishti Trust Munnar: 211 differently-abled people trained in vocational skills
- Project Jalodari (WaSH): 4 iron removal plants installed, 3,586 women reached with menstrual hygiene awareness
Each result was supported by data visualisation, quotes, and relevance to national priorities.
Insights and recommendations in every CSR impact assessment report
Our final CSR Impact Assessment Report didn’t just present data. It offered:
- Project-specific recommendations for improved outcomes
- SDG-aligned metrics and CSR Reporting Format
- Impact dashboards for internal tracking
- Case studies to bring stories to life
The report followed SEBI guidelines for CSR reporting and offered clarity on CSR governance, stakeholder engagement and long-term outcomes.
A strong foundation for corporate social responsibility reporting
The insights generated helped TCPL refine their CSR strategy, improve partner alignment, and strengthen future corporate social responsibility reports.
It now serves as:
- A benchmark among CSR reporting examples in India
- A reference document for future audits and reviews
- A strategic communication tool for stakeholders and investors
