ICC – Consultivo Social CSR Impact Awards

The Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) recently hosted the prestigious Social Impact Awards, in partnership with Consultivo. This national level event took place at Hotel Taj Bengal in Kolkata and it recognized outstanding contributions of organisations (corporate foundations, Corporate CSR wings, funders, Civil Society Organisations & NGOs) to social projects and sustainable development.

The event Social Impact Summit & Awards witnessed a great turnout with over 70 pan India projects in the field of CSR and sustainability participating in the awards. The event featured two technical sessions where industry experts from various fields of corporate foundations, implementation bodies, funding bodies and independent CSR consulting firms shared their insights and expertise. 

Consultivo, as the knowledge partner, played a crucial role in ensuring that the event was informative and impactful. Our expertise in the field of impact assessment of CSR projects helped to shape the technical sessions and ensure that the awards were given to deserving organisations that have made a tangible difference in society.

The first panel discussion, moderated by Mr Saikat Basu, CEO of Consultivo, focused on “Measuring Impact – The Success of CSR.” The panelists included Dr. Dipankar Saharia, Senior Director at TERI, Ms. Sujata Sen, CEO of Future Hope, Dr. Y Suresh Reddy, Director of SRF Foundation, Mr. Jagjeet Singh Kandal, Country Head of IDH, and Mr. Anurag Pratap, Director & Head CSR – Capgemini Technology. The discussion revolved around the importance of measuring the impact of CSR initiatives and how it can be done effectively.

 

In this forum, the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and Consultivo present a research report on Impact Assessment of CSR Activities by Companies in India – A Benchmarking Study

This research report is based on insights we gathered from over 180 projects and 70 organisations in the domain of CSR, social and sustainability. The data was collected from the organisations who plan to provide CSR impact assessments, which measure the net effect of an activity on a community and the well-being of individuals and families. For this research purpose, we used public domain data mostly from Annual Reports, BRSR reports, ESG reports, Sustainability Reports and many more.

The through research enabled in-depth analysis of overall trends, as well as generating a wide range of granular metrics. This report also highlights the high-impact areas. This will help in understanding the challenges and the key success factors among their peers—information that can be used to identify opportunities for improvements for all.

The second technical session focused on the topic “Emergence of Sustainability in CSR – a paradigm shift”, and was moderated by Dr Amit Kumar Thakur, Head CSR & Senior Fellow at TERI. The panelists included Mr. Arun Sundaresan, Co-fund manager & head of Nippon Life India Asset Management, Mr. Nixon Joseph, CEO of CLT India, Mr. Rishi Pathania, Head CSR at UPL Ltd, and Mr. Pritesh Shah, Onshore Head of HSE, CSR, Sustainability L&T Energy Hydrocarbon. The panel discussed the emerging importance of sustainability in CSR and how companies can shift their focus towards sustainable initiatives.

Attendees feedback confirmed that they gained valuable insights and knowledge on various topics related to sustainable development and impact assessment in CSR from thought leaders and industry veterans.

The event was graced by the presence of Dr Shashi Panja, Hon’ble Minister Dept of Industries Commerce & Enterprises and Development of Women and Child and Social Welfare, Govt. of West Bengal, who gave out the awards to the winners. The awards were given to companies and organizations that had made significant contributions to society through their CSR initiatives. More than 70 projects in CSR and sustainability across India participated in the awards.

Dr Vibha Dhawan, Director General, TERI received the Social Impact Leadership Award of the year. In her keynote address, Dr Vibha Dhawan highlighted the importance of research and capacity building in the field of development project implementation.

Ms Rowan Ainsworth, Consul-General of Australia also addressed the event and spoke about the importance of CSR and how it can benefit society and businesses alike. She discussed certain development projects  in North Eastern states of India by the Govt of Australia.

Overall, the Indian Chamber of Commerce Social Impact Awards 2023 was a grand success, and it highlighted the growing importance of CSR and sustainability in India. The event provided a platform for companies and organizations to showcase their efforts towards creating a better society and inspired others to take up the mantle of CSR and sustainability.
