Safety Week Ideas & Activities
for Every Workplace
Planning your National Safety Week celebration should not feel like a last-minute scramble. This page gives you everything you need — a 7-day programme plan, practical activity ideas for employees, competition formats, sector-specific suggestions, and expert-led training options from Consultivo Academy. Whether you are in manufacturing, construction, logistics, or an office setting, there is something here for your team.
Your 7-Day Safety Week Programme
Here is a day-by-day plan you can adapt for your organisation. Each day has a theme, suggested activities, and a training idea. You do not need to do everything — pick what works for your team and your sector.
Safety Week Activity Ideas — by Category
Good Safety Week activities do two things: they engage people and they build genuine safety awareness. Below are ideas organised into four categories. Most of these can be run in-house with minimal preparation — and Consultivo can support facilitation for the ones that benefit from expert involvement.
Safety Quiz
A team-based safety quiz is one of the most engaging and easiest competitions to run. It tests knowledge, sparks conversation, and is suitable for all levels — from workers to supervisors.
Poster Making Competition
Ask employees to create a safety awareness poster aligned with the year's theme. Display entries in the canteen, lobby, or notice board. Simple, inexpensive, and builds real ownership of the safety message.
Slogan & Essay Competition
A slogan writing competition is quick to run and produces material you can actually use — on banners, posters, and internal communications throughout the year.
Safety Video/Reel Competition
Particularly effective with younger workers. Ask teams to create a 60-second video demonstrating a safe work practice or a safety awareness message. Share on your internal channels.
Hazard Hunt Competition
Teams are given 30 minutes to identify as many hazards as possible in a designated area of the plant or office. The team with the most accurate hazard list wins. One of the most practically useful activities you can run.
Near-Miss Reporting Challenge
Launch a near-miss reporting campaign during Safety Week. The department that reports the most valid near-misses wins a recognition award. This directly builds your safety leading-indicator data while creating a healthy competitive element.
Toolbox Talk Series
A 15-minute toolbox talk at the start of each shift, every day of the week, on a different safety topic. Simple to run, directly relevant to workers, and one of the most cost-effective safety communication tools available.
Mock Fire Drill
A well-executed fire drill does three things: it tests your emergency response system, it builds muscle memory in workers for a real emergency, and it identifies gaps in your emergency preparedness. Do it at least once during Safety Week.
First Aid Demonstration
A live first aid demonstration — CPR, bleeding control, choking response — run by your in-house first aid team or an external trainer. More impactful and memorable than any presentation or poster.
PPE Correct-Use Workshop
A hands-on workshop showing workers how to correctly select, wear, maintain, and dispose of PPE. Particularly effective when workers see for themselves why fit matters — a loose helmet provides very different protection from a correctly fitted one.
Safety Awareness Session
A 45-minute awareness session on the year's Safety Week theme — "Engage, Educate & Empower" in 2026. Suitable for all staff levels. Can be run by your safety team or by a Consultivo expert if you want an external perspective and more credibility with the audience.
HIRA Walkthrough for Workers
Show frontline workers what Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) looks like in practice — in their own work area. Workers who understand the hazards around them are far more likely to follow safe work practices consistently.
Safety Pledge Ceremony
The National Safety Day pledge is one of the most visible and symbolic ways to launch Safety Week. When it is led visibly by the Plant Head or MD — not just the safety team — it sends a clear message that safety is a leadership priority, not a compliance checkbox.
Senior Management Safety Walk
A scheduled walkthrough of the shop floor or site by senior leadership — specifically looking for safety conditions and speaking directly with workers. Not an audit. A conversation. Workers notice, and it matters far more than any poster or bulletin.
Safety Champion Recognition
Recognise employees who have demonstrated exceptional safety behaviour, reported hazards, or contributed to safety improvement during the year. Public recognition is one of the most powerful drivers of safety culture change — and it costs almost nothing.
Safety Committee Open Meeting
Hold an open safety committee meeting — or a town hall-style safety review — during Safety Week. Present the year's safety performance data, top hazards identified, and improvement actions taken. Workers appreciate being told the truth about where things stand.
Annual Safety Review
Conduct an internal safety performance review during Safety Week. Compare this year's data with the previous year's. Celebrate improvements. Acknowledge areas that still need work. Make commitments with specific timelines for the year ahead.
Safety Culture Survey
Launch a brief safety culture perception survey during Safety Week. Ask workers how safe they feel, whether they would report a hazard, and whether they trust the safety systems. The results will surprise you — and give you the clearest picture of where to focus next.
Safety Nukkad Natak (Street Play)
A 10–15 minute safety awareness street play performed by employees themselves. Enormously popular in Indian manufacturing. The act of preparing and performing the play creates more learning than any classroom session — and it is entertaining for the whole workforce.
Safety Film Screening
Screen a 30-minute safety awareness film or documentary relevant to your sector — followed by a 15-minute group discussion. The discussion is more valuable than the film. Many are available free from NSCI, the ILO, and international safety bodies.
Safety Poster Exhibition
Display safety posters throughout the week — competition entries, downloaded NSCI materials, and Consultivo's own knowledge resources — in high-footfall areas. A simple safety message that workers see 20 times during the week is far more effective than one they hear once in a session.
Safety Rally or Walkathon
Organise a safety awareness walkthrough of the plant or site — a walking procession through the main areas, stopping at key hazard locations for a brief safety message. Highly visible, creates a sense of community, and works well on National Safety Day itself.
Department Safety Challenge
Run a week-long inter-department safety challenge. Each department earns points for completing safety activities — drill participation, near-miss reports, quiz scores, toolbox talk attendance. The winning department at the end of the week receives a team recognition award.
Safety Story Sharing Session
Invite experienced workers to share a safety incident or near-miss from their career — and what they learned from it. Peer storytelling is more powerful than any management presentation. Workers listen to other workers.
Safety Week Ideas for Your Industry
Different industries face different hazards. These sector-specific activity ideas are based on the most common risk profiles in each industry. Select your sector below.
Machine Guarding Safety Week Drive Priority
Focus one full day on machine and area guarding — walkthrough inspections, demonstration of safe machine operation, and a competition to identify missing or inadequate guards. Machine guarding is consistently the weakest element in manufacturing safety assessments.
Chemical Safety Awareness Session
Run a session on chemical storage, labelling (GHS/MSDS), and emergency response for chemical incidents. Involve your chemical handling workers directly — not just the safety team. Cover the top 3 chemicals on your plant by hazard level.
Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Demonstration
A practical demonstration of correct LOTO procedures for maintenance activities. Electrical and mechanical energy isolation is one of the most frequently violated procedures in manufacturing — a hands-on demonstration is far more effective than a written policy.
Contractor Safety Day
Dedicate one day specifically to contractor workers — who often have the highest risk exposure and the lowest safety awareness in a manufacturing setting. Run a contractor safety induction refresher and a permit-to-work awareness session for all active contractors on site.
ProtoSafe™ Safety Maturity Self-Assessment Consultivo
Use Safety Week as the trigger to conduct a scored assessment of your safety management system. A ProtoSafe™ assessment produces a maturity score across 30 OHS elements — giving you a clear baseline to plan next year's safety improvements from.
Safety Ideas for Manufacturing Plant — 5S Safety Walk
Combine a 5S walkthrough with a safety lens — identify housekeeping hazards, blocked walkways, improperly stored materials, and fire hazard accumulations. Teams from different departments observe each other's areas. Fresh eyes find things familiar workers miss.
Working at Height Safety Day Priority
Falls from height are the leading cause of fatalities in construction. Dedicate a full day to working at height — demonstration of correct harness fitting, scaffold inspection walkthrough, and a toolbox talk on height safety for all workers who work above 2 metres.
Excavation & Confined Space Awareness
Run a practical awareness session on excavation safety and confined space entry procedures. Include a demonstration of atmospheric testing equipment and rescue procedures. For smaller sites, even a 30-minute toolbox talk with visual aids is highly effective.
New Worker Safety Induction Week
Use Safety Week to conduct enhanced inductions for all recently joined workers — particularly casual or contract labour. High turnover in construction means some workers may never have received a thorough site induction. Safety Week is a natural opportunity to address this.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Inspection Drive
Inspect all PPE in use across the site — check condition, expiry dates, and correct specification for the hazard. Replace defective items immediately. Show workers the condition of their PPE and explain why damaged PPE provides inadequate protection.
Vehicle & Pedestrian Safety Drive Priority
Vehicle-pedestrian conflicts are the most common cause of serious incidents in logistics and warehousing. Mark Safety Week by reviewing all vehicle traffic routes, checking segregation of pedestrian walkways, and running a workshop on safe vehicle operation for all forklift and vehicle operators.
Manual Handling Awareness Session
A practical session on correct manual handling techniques — particularly relevant for warehouse and logistics teams who lift and handle goods repeatedly. Include a demonstration of what incorrect lifting does to the spine, using a physical model or video where possible.
Racking & Storage Inspection Drive
Conduct a structured inspection of all racking systems in the warehouse. Many serious warehouse incidents involve racking failures that could have been prevented by regular inspection. Involve workers in identifying racking damage or overloading — they see it daily and know where the problems are.
Driver Safety & Journey Management Session
For organisations with road transport operations, run a driver safety awareness session covering fatigue management, load securing, defensive driving, and emergency response. Journey safety is often the highest-risk activity in a logistics business — and the least trained for.
Fire Safety & Evacuation Practice Priority
For commercial buildings and offices, a fire evacuation drill is the single most important Safety Week activity. Many office workers have never participated in a real drill. Run it unannounced on one day and announced on another — compare the two evacuation times.
Ergonomics & Workplace Well-being Session
Run a practical ergonomics session for office workers — correct workstation setup, posture, screen distance, and break routine. Ergonomic injuries are the most common occupational health issue in office settings and are almost entirely preventable with awareness and simple adjustments.
Mental Health & Stress Awareness Talk
Particularly relevant in the 2026 theme of "Engage, Educate & Empower" — psychological safety and mental health are increasingly recognised as core occupational health concerns. A 45-minute awareness talk from a qualified professional can open a conversation that many workplaces never have.
Safety in Visitor Management
Review your visitor management, contractor management, and access control procedures during Safety Week. Commercial buildings often have robust physical security but weak safety induction for visitors and maintenance contractors — particularly relevant given fire safety and evacuation requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Questions? We have answers.
What is National Safety Week and when is it celebrated?
National Safety Week is an annual campaign in India observed from 4 to 10 March every year, led by the National Safety Council of India (NSCI). It begins on National Safety Day — 4 March — which marks the founding of the National Safety Council in 1966. The week promotes Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) practices across industries and communities, encouraging organisations to go beyond statutory compliance and build genuine safety cultures. It is also known as Rashtriya Suraksha Saptah in Hindi.
How is the risk score calculated?
ESG Slate analyses inspection checklists and thermographic inputs against protocolled criteria and statutory checklists. Scores are componentised (electrical / thermography / fire) and validated by our engineers.
Who performs the inspections?
All on-site work is performed by qualified electrical engineers, fire engineers, safety auditors and certified thermographers.
Is thermographic testing safe during live operations?
Yes — our certified thermographers follow live-equipment safety protocols and only perform imaging under approved and controlled conditions.
How quickly will we get the report?
Typical delivery is 5–10 working days after sitework for small to mid-size sites. Exact timelines are confirmed during scoping.
Can you help with remediation execution?
Yes — we offer optional tendering support, project management and verification services for implemented fixes.
